As we learned in Step One of The Prosperity Formula, Clarity – or knowing what you want – is imperative to getting what you want.
By the same token, you have to be very careful what you focus on. Obsessing about the negative or potential negatives is also a form of clarity. And wherever your focus goes, your reality is sure to follow.
Years ago a friend of mine was swimming in her pool when she noticed a large, black, scary bug in the water. She was pretty frightened of bugs, so rather than mess with it, she decided to leave it alone. She went on with her exercise and hoped the bug would find its own way out.
But as she swam her laps she couldn’t forget about the bug. She worried that she might run into it while swimming, that it might bite her, that she might have an allergic reaction to the bite and so on. She thought about the bug each minute of the half hour she was in the pool. When she stopped her exercise, she went over to the side of the pool to rest before getting out. With the bug nowhere in sight she decided she was being ridiculous and thought perhaps the bug had crawled out and flown away.
She went back into the house and stepped into the bathroom to slip off her swimsuit. When her suit hit the floor, she noticed the bug did as well. Somehow it had found its way into her swimsuit.
Rather than freak out she laughed a rather stunned laugh. When she called me later to share the story with me she said, “You know, Melissa, at just that moment I realized that whatever you think about really does come to pass in your life.”
When confronted with a challenge, you want to evaluate where your Focus, Attention, Time and Energy are going. Do you spend 80% of your time worrying or feeling angry and powerless? Or is 80% of your time spent focusing on or working on a more positive outcome?
As a former minister of mine used to say, “Worrying is just praying for all the things you don’t want.” And he was right!
With The Prosperity Formula, you can intend upon anything that you might need. If you’re struggling with a bad habit, a health issue, an unhealthy relationship dynamic or relationship pattern, then begin to think about what you want for those scenarios. The same applies to any kind of career or business challenge. Spend as little time worrying about your challenge as possible. Channel that nervous energy into developing a clear focus on what you do want.
Focusing on what you don’t want, won’t bring any positive results.
Focusing on what you do want, will begin to bring the object of your focus closer to you.
