Whether it’s a loved one or a valued work associate, you can give them a gift today that costs nothing, takes almost no time no energy, but will touch their heart.
If it’s a work associate, manager or direct report, look them in the eye and quietly in your mind say to them, “Thank you.” You might go on a bit, again, quietly in your mind, for all that you appreciate about them. Let your intent be genuine.
You’ll notice their energy soften, they’ll feel a kinship, a loyalty, and they’ll feel, appreciated.
I often thank my staff out loud and directly to their face. Sometimes, when they’re leaving for the day, I simply say, “Thank you.”
But sometimes I like to say it without saying it at all. I think my genuine intent often gets through to them more deeply that way.
Too often people don’t realize how appreciated they really are. And sometimes it’s not because you didn’t show your appreciation.
Saying it without saying it out loud, can often bypass their own objections and suspicions.
It’s amazing how well we all hear the unsaid.

I don’t know about you, but I see everything better with my eyes closed.
Without the distraction of noisy surroundings, or the pressure of someone working hard to convince me to buy, or the emotional pull of someone else’s needs, the better choices present themselves with ease when I take time to reflect.
There are very few decisions in business or in life that need to be made right on the spot. Typically we have the time to reflect and to allow the right answer to present itself. We just don’t take that opportunity often enough.
You’ll want to be truly motivated to find the highest and best arrangement for everyone involved, if this practice is to serve you. Steer clear from using this time to rationalize a comfortable or self-serving perspective. Reflection is about noticing and listening, not justifying.

Karl Lagerfeld was interviewed recently about his widespread success and he commented as to why others aren’t as successful.
“Too many people remember what they’ve done. They need to forget everything and begin again.”
We have an obsession in our culture, that we ought to reach a finite point of expertise – that somehow we ought to attain perfection.
Karl’s quote reminds us that life and learning never end.
The next time you catch yourself aiming for perfection notice how restrictive that is to your creativity.
Perhaps it’s more wise to go for insanely great instead.
